ELECTRICIAN APPRENTICESHIP: COURSE OVERVIEW
Step One | Level 1 City & Guilds Health and Safety
First of all, you will attend two days of health and safety training webinars and complete the Level 1 City & Guilds Health and Safety exam remotely. Passing this exam demonstrates that you’re capable of working on a construction site without posing a risk to yourself and others.
Step Two | CSCS Card
Next up is a one-day webinar that will prepare you to sit the CSCS card exam. If successful, you will be issued with a CSCS card: your ticket to working on-site.
Step Three | Preparing for Work
Once you’ve obtained your CSCS card, we’ll reach out to our network of employers to get you an interview for one of 300+ labourer / site work opportunities across the UK. You will need to attend two days of webinars to make sure you’re ready to start work.
Step Four | Start Earning!
Access Apprentices typically start with a standard site labourer role, so your duties will include site maintenance, setup and clearance. PPE will be provided. Expect to earn somewhere between £10.65 and £14.00 per hour.
NOTE: Duties and salary may vary depending on site location.
Step Five | Electrical Theory
Step Four and Step Five happen simultaneously. While you’re gaining valuable work experience on the construction site, you’ll also be completing the theory portion of your electrical training course—this involves webinars and some homework.
Step Six | Hands-On Training
Once you’ve got a decent grasp of electrical theory, you’ll attend one of our fully-equipped training centres to complete the practical portion of your course. All of our tutors are experienced electricians themselves, and they’ll share their expertise with you as you develop your skill set. The course content and qualifications will depend on which training package you choose: our Essential Electrician Course, our Professional Electrician Course or our Premier Electrician Course.
Step Seven | Ongoing Career Support
Once you’ve completed your electrical apprenticeship and achieved the rank of qualified electrician, you will be able to seek employment or even start a business and plough your own furrow as a self-employed electrician. Either way, our Career Support Team will continue to support you as you embark on your new career.
How long is an electrician apprenticeship?
Electrician apprenticeships typically take three years to complete, although there are fast-track options available at certain colleges and/or for individuals with pre-existing skills or qualifications. A standard electrical apprenticeship involves one day a week at college and four days within a related job role.
Our Access Apprenticeship programme is specifically designed to train you up and get you qualified as quickly as possible (while enabling you to earn money at the same time). The length of your electrician apprenticeship course will depend on a number of different factors, but in most cases, this route is significantly faster than a traditional apprenticeship.

How much does an electrician apprenticeship cost?
Access Training’s electrician apprenticeship programme is a combination of one of our electrician courses with a paid work placement (and the basic training required for on-site work).
The cost of the Essential, Professional and Premier courses remains the same, meaning you're getting on-site work experience while also training to become a fully-qualified electrician for the same price as a standard electrical course.
